Formic acid (HCOOH) is a simple carboxylic acid, the simplest member of the carboxylic acid family. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, commonly found in the stings and bites of ants and other insects. Formic acid is highly soluble in water and is widely used in various industries.

    It can undergo esterification, oxidation, and decarboxylation reactions.

    Agriculture: It is used in animal feed as a preservative and in the production of silage.

    Leather Industry: Used in leather tanning and finishing processes.
